What does the ending scene mean in Halo 3?

Well i have read and played every piece of halo material out there, yes I’m a huge geek about this stuff, and i think its just to let everyone know that master chief isn’t dead and we could very possibly see him in future Bungie projects. As for the planet he is seen floating towards, who knows. Could be a forerunner home world or even onyx. (shield installation) well that’s all i know about this subject. hope i helped!
